About Shemtov: Meet the Mind Behind the Movement

I was ordained in 2014, at the Academy for Jewish Religion in New York. I'm the ex-wife of an alcoholic who passed away from the disease in 2010.  One of my passions as a Rabbi is working with a variety of recovery communities. For the last 10 years I've been writing "12-Step Torah Commentaries" utilizing 12-Step slogans and connecting them to stories in the Torah.

Ryan & Sara

"Rabbi Shemtov brings her inspirational personal story and a deep knowledge of Torah and Jewish tradition to help people explore the spiritual and emotional challenges of addiction with sensitivity, wisdom, and empathy. Our congregants were moved by her passion and insight."

Rabbi Brian Stoller

"During my six years of studying with Rabbi Shemtov, I discovered how amazing and multifaceted she is. Our time together was filled with fun and learning, and although she was my rabbi, she quickly became my friend. Rabbi Shemtov was the sole reason I was able to have a Bar Mitzvah. Without her, I’m not sure I could have completed such a daunting task."
